Review Policy

This is how I personally mark the books according to enjoyment of it.

For me to rate a book 3 stars is that I liked your book. There would most probably be a 'but' in the review somewhere that just didn't work to hold my interest. Now.....this is not a bad thing, its MY opinion and you will get plenty of other reviews.

This will mean that I have absolutely loved the book and am thrilled to have read it, its captured my interest at the start to finish.

If I give 5 stars, it means its on level parring with any best seller book I have read for years and am an avid fan off, which means, I will be stalking you for your next release!

PLEASE NOTE

What I write now is important to me. And hopefully to you getting to know me :)
I love reading, and I love reviewing. But my reviews are only a drop in the ocean of many reviews you will get from others, please remember that my reviews are my own feelings when reading your book.
I do not read to 'get a free book'. I have lots that I have purchased not even read yet. The only books I read that were gifted to me were either from Publishers from Net Galley or ones I receive in the post from various authors I read and review for from their publishers. I am approached by Indie/new authors daily, and I have to turn a lot away. I do not take genres that I am not comfortable reading due to the fact my review will reflect this and it won't be an unbiased review. So I avoid those. I do take ebooks if they are interesting to me and I know I am 95% sure I will enjoy it.

I hate what I see happening lately to authors, reviews being so spiteful, hurtful, and abusive to the author themselves. I also hate the arguments that I have seen or heard go on between other authors, the jealousy etc. This has lead me many times to thinking am I doing the right thing? Am I getting too close to authors to give an unbiased review.
The thing is, I am an honest person, quite open too, and if I read a book and it doesn't stir anything in me or keep my attention, I will let you know. I am not hurtful, or unkind. I try hard to explain why it didn't work personally for me, and never want to upset any author in my doing that, however, in the past I had abuse and was stalked because I didn't give the feedback they were expecting. I have not [to my knowledge or rememberance] given a lower star rating than 3. I wouldn't do that, its not my policy.

Authors and aspiring authors want to get credibility and be taken seriously for their work, I think that's how it should be and I hope I respect that as a reader/reviewer.
I too want the respect from my reviews, that is why, I write how I felt about a book and not too much about what is IN the book. The blurb says most of that.
I want people to trust me too. Only readers who like the books I read will mostly follow my reviews I would expect, so I too don't want them to feel I am nothing but honest. Honest to me is not blunt or hurtful, its  how I felt in reading it.

I also have to bring to the attention that:
1. I do not just read books that are gifted to me or sent to me FREE
2. I do not rate a book highly so that author will give me another book for free. If that author doesn't, that's fine by me.
3. I do purchase books myself to help the Indie authors and even give them as presents to family and friends who I think would love to read them as much as I did.

So, let me emphasis, I do not rate a book highly just because it is free to me. I value ALL my books.

I would like to thank every single author who are still awaiting a review. They will be done.......but these things take time.

  1. This is so reasonable, Sue. I don't understand how anyone can give you grief. I'm thankful for what you do and so glad you're still doing it. xoxo

  3. Hi;
Have your read SHADOW GARDEN BLUES by Michael Romeo?
It's a twisted, devilish tale spun from the author's past. An honest look into the choices made and wrong turns taken that led to a life of constant struggle. You're with him as he walks uphill through snow to a menial early morning job. He sits next to you in the rusted out hulk of a crap car that he now sleeps in for a whole summer. You can hear the mosquitoes buzz in your ear.
The unforeseen tragedies will shock you and you'll cry along with him.
It's not all bad. There are joys and hopes and dreams and prose delivered with such clarity you'll feel the sun on your face.
SHADOW GARDEN BLUES is available on Amazon and there's a link to an ad, with reviews, below.

    Thank you
    Michael Romeo
