Game Changer by Collette West

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Let me say, I didn't know anything about baseball, I live in the UK, that does make a difference I think, but.......I have learnt a lot about the game.

I was first attracted to this book by the cover, yes I know, shallow, but I think a books introduction is initially the cover being attractive the the eye of the reader. Of course, being a reviewer I also know that is not all to choosing your books to read, so I read the blurb as well!!! Not only that, I have read a previous book by this author and enjoyed it so off I went to sit and read.

As I snuggled down to start this book I had reservations, would I understand it? I'm not a sporty type. Is it a behind the scenes full of sex and romps [nothing wrong in that] but I fancied a good old read of a bit of a gritty book with some ummph in it.

My expectations and thoughts of what I might find in this baseball related read was WRONG, I was so wrong. Its MORE than that, its a STORY! It actually tells real life instances that can happen to anyone.

There was hints of angst, cheering from me and also sadness. No one likes to see someone be struck down in ill health and spoil their ambitions in life, this is what happened in this book.

I also met Shasha. Her brother Kyle has been struck down with illness, he needs a heart transplant, Shash steps up in the baseball team in place of her ill brother, she wants to do good for him. But they've never had a female amongst them involved in that side of the sport! wooo hold on a god dam minute!!! The other fella Brooks, oh he's not happy at all..............we see how he struggles, but then something happens where he needs to change his mind.

Of course, this brings Shasha and Brooks together a lot.

I really loved this story line and I am glad I took the chance to read this, NEVER judge a book by its cover [in this case, it was a really great cover :-) and NEVER judge a book by its title. Brilliant satisfying read.

Young, rich, and unaware of how seriously hot he is, Brooks Davison is tearing it up as the latest shortstop for the New York Kings, despite his tendency to blush whenever girls scream his name.

When a health scare forces his best friend, Kyle Roberts, off the team, no one can stomach the thought of replacing him, especially so close to the playoffs.

Until Kyle's sister, Sasha, steps in, convincing management to let her take his place. The idea of signing the first female player in Major League history proves too tempting for the Kings to resist.

Nevertheless, Brooks doesn't want any part of it. Sasha is Kyle's little sister, not some sideshow.

Yet when Kyle takes a turn for the worse, Brooks promises to do everything in his power to help Sasha win a championship for him. Because there's no way he's letting either of them down. Not now, not ever
